Keynote Title

OAI on RISC-V and Collaboration Avenues with Chinese Research Laboratories

Abstract

This talk will cover the current status of porting the OAI open-source 5G stack to high-end and low-cost embedded RISC-V platforms, in particular those using recent SoC solutions from SpaceMIT which are globally available off-the-shelf. This is a running activity between the OpenAirInterface team in Europe and BUPT in China. We will highlight challenges in porting existing x86/aarch64 5G signal processing code to RISC-V RVV and consequences on how low-cost 5G/6G RAN and UE solutions can be built for collaborative research projects. We will also report on the efficiency of using AI-based code generation tools for RISC-V targets. The rest of the talk will suggest avenues for collaboration with Chinese research laboratories which build on the ongoing efforts with BUPT on this topic.

Raymond received his PhD in Communication Systems from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) in Lausanne. His current research and teaching interests include digital communications, software radio architectures, and the implementation aspects of signal processing systems and real-time wireless networking protocols. He has a proven track record of managing both fundamental and experimental research projects.

Raymond is a leading figure in the OpenAirInterface community and has been instrumental in making open software for Radio Access Networks a reality through his contributions over the past two decades. He is one of the earliest and most significant contributors to the OpenAirInterface codebase.
