Sino-Japanese FuTURE Mobile Communication Technology Workshop Held in Guilin from June 1st to 3rd
International | 2006/6/4In order to further promote the development of future mobile communication technology and to strengthen the cooperation in B3G research between China and Japan, FuTURE MOBILE COMMUNICATION FORUM together with Japanese IEICE (the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers) organized Sino-Japanese Future Mobile Communication Technology Workshop in Guilin from June 1st to 3rd. The seminar was specially sponsored by National Natural Science Foundation of China and Southeast University and co-organized by Kyoto University of Japan and NTT DoCoMo Beijing Research Institute. The seminar was attended by a number of Japanese renowned professors from Sophia University, Yokohama National University, Tokyo Denki University, Tohoku University, Osaka University, University of Electro-Communications, etc., Chinese superior experts from Tsinghua University, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Shanghai Jiaotong University, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, etc., and representatives from member organizations of FuTURE MOBILE COMMUNICATION FORUM such as Shanghai Research Center for Wireless Communications, Datang Telecom, ZTE, Huawei, Nokia, Ericsson, Siemens, Qualcomm, Samsung, etc..
The seminar was hosted by Mr. You Xiaohu, the secretary-general of FuTURE MOBILE COMMUNICATION FORUM, and Professor Yoshida from Kyoto University of Japan. A total of 15 experts and scholars, from both domestic and overseas universities and research institutes, made great presentations, which covered topics ranging widely from key technologies for B3G/4G Wireless Communications, Network Structure, Air Interface, Antenna Technology, Field Trial and Experiment. During the seminar, two panel discussions were organized respectively concerning B3G Distributed Radio Communication Technology, and the emerging techniques for the Next Generation Wireless Communication System. The participants enthusiastically discussed the issues above, amongst which the major one was the Distributed Radio Communication Technology developed by FuTURE Project of China. All members delivered their views freely and showed their enthusiasm on the topics in the warm atmosphere. Such warm and friendly atmosphere of academic exchanges continued in the subsequent outdoor exchange activities, and was melt in the beautiful landscapes of Guilin.
The workshop was another mutual exchange promotion activity after the memorandum of bilateral cooperation between Japan and China had been formally signed. In Japan, both the government and the industrial community paid much attention to the development of future mobile communication and they started the research on B3G technology as early as 2001. An important progress in B3G field trial system has been made by certain Japanese corporations, such as the leading one DoCoMo.
China, attaching great importance to the R&D of B3G, formally launched B3G FuTURE research project in 2002. A breakthrough has been made since then. The distributed radio network test platform has been established with the 100 megabytes data transmission rate, low power and other characteristics of wireless transmission, which can simultaneously demonstrate various applications such as high resolution IPTV, INTERNET, VOD, and video telephone service.
As a platform for international cooperation and exchange, FuTURE MOBILE COMMUNICATION FORUM is a bridge between organizations, such as domestic and overseas research institutes, corporations, public service units, and has begun to play a unique and important role in the development of B3G technology. FuTURE Mobile Communication Forum promotes the development and advancement of future mobile communication technology by organizing various activities and launching programs of different scales. At the same time, as a neutral organization, the Forum will assist the government to further strengthen bilateral exchanges between Japan and China, gradually implement the strategic plan for more cooperation, achieve the goals, effectively carry out the work, and make Sino-Japanese cooperation more exhaustive and more comprehensive.
