 Research     |       2008/12/18

The fourth working group meeting of FuTURE FORUM 2008 was held at Tianjin Regal Riviera Hot Spring Resort from December 15th to 17th of 2008. By this meeting, the compilation of the White Paper 2008 has come to an end. During the year of 2008, all the groups have improved their subjects and research methods to a new level.

On this meeting, WG1 proposed more detailed suggestions on the minimum requirements of IMT-Advanced jointly propsoed by China Mobile and China Telecom, and furtherly discussed the requirement standards on LTE-A. WG2, with certain pertinence, focused on certain hot subjects such as emergent communication, NFC and UWB. WG3 attached great importance to the some new spectrum technologies such as spectrum integrtion and cognitive radio technologies while focusing on the spectrum testing and modeling. WG4, while studying Relay technology, took MIMO technology as their major subject in 2008, involving certain subjects such as MIMO (Multi-user MIMO) and CoMP, receiving high-quality articles with precise argumentation and intact conclusions. WG5 has basically confirmed the contents of their white paper, involving the major chapters of VoIP, the improvement of uplink spectrum efficiency, management of relay-based radio resources, HARQ, management of radio resources in converged network. WG6 mainly studied HomeNodeB within this year. BWA group made detailed discussion and communication on the application scenario and general framework of the BWA system designed for the education fields, making clear the job division and expecting to achieve certain breakthroughs on technology and standards in the next year.

On December 16th, Mr. Zhang Xinsheng, Vice Director of Department of Science and Technology of MIIT, attended the summary meeting and made oriented instructions to the future work of the Forum. Director Zhang stressed the importance of technical application, stating that products and services should be taken into consideration with the technologies getting mature and the research should be more requirement-oriented. As for the development of broadband wireless access technologies in China, Director Zhang proposed that it was important to provide different technologies to realize different applications which would bring more space for industrial innovation.

Prof. Li Shaoqian and Prof. Wang Jing both attended the summary meeting to comment on the work of the Forum. According to the experts, FuTURE FORUM has built up an environment for information sharing, involving various aspects in mobile communication field while more portrait discussion and more ardent academic debate on hot issues are expected in the future.

Presently, the development of broadband wireless access technology and system is taken as an important part in the national significant programs of the next generation broadband mobile communication. On the summary meeting, Prof. Li Shaoqian, the general principal in charge of the national significant program of broadband wireless access technology and system, fully explained the route and policies for China’s development of broadband wireless access technologies, stating that there is much possibility for the application and market development of broadband wireless access technologies. He pointed out that certain research and discussion would be conducted on some key applications and technologies via the communicative platform provided by FuTURE FORUM, as the necessary preparation for the initiation of the national significant program of broadband wireless access technologies.
