On May 18th, 2006, the seminar on the strategic development of TDD technology was held in HongYun hall in Beijing XiYuan hotel. The seminar was attended by Mr. Zhang Xinsheng, the vice director of Department of Science and Technology of Ministry of Information Industry, Mr. Yu Shengduo, Director of Department of Science and Technology of Ministry of Information Industry, Ms. Wang Zhiqin, Deputy Director of Institute of Communication Standards Research of CATR and Mr. Wan Yi, Director of Institute of Communication Standards Research of CATR. Professor You Xiaohu, Vice Chairman of FuTURE FORUM, Professor Zhang Ping and representatives from Forum members also attended the meeting.

Professor You presided the Seminar. He firstly expressed gratitude for the support given by the leaders of the Ministry of Information Industry, and hoped that the communication among members could be enhanced by such activities so as to promote the future development of TDD technology.

Mr. Zhang Xinsheng delivered a significant speech, in which he affirmed the great amount of work done in the aspects of 3G and B3G mobile communication as well as the remarkable success achieved. He indicated that the government and Ministry of Information Industry had realized the significance of the broadband wireless communication technology long before, taken it as a strategically important subject, and put its future development into the agenda. Meanwhile, Mr. Zhang stressed that it would take quite a long and tough period to develop and industrialize the broadband wireless communication technology and that it was necessary to keep pace with the fast development of technology and to make full use of the experience accumulated in the area of wireless development so that a great step forward can be realized in the future development. The development of the next generation broadband wireless technology had been put in the national medium-and-long term program of scientific and technological development. Relevant companies, universities and colleges, and research institutes must work in accordance with the eleventh five-year program and lay a solid foundation for the future development. Mr. Zhang, with an ardent expectation for the Forum, hoped that universities and colleges, relevant corporations and research institutes could work together with the Forum and make remarkable contributions for the development of wireless mobile technology

Later, Professor Zhang Ping and other representatives from HuaWei, DaTang, Shanghai Research Centre for Wireless Communication, HuaZhong University of Science and Technology, University of Electric Science and Technology, and Beijing University of Post and Telecommunications made important speeches regarding the strategic development and achievements of the future TDD technology. Professor You made a sum-up conclusion in the end in which he gave an incisive and accurate analysis on the latest progress of TDD technology and forecasted the trend of the development of TDD technology from different aspects.

After hearing the reports, the leaders and experts discussed the hot and popular issues concerned. They believed the development would have a bright future on the basis of a comprehensive understanding of the current situation. Having expressed the support from the government, Mr. Zhang encouraged all to be confident in the broadband mobile technology industry. He expected that the Forum could make more efforts in the near future to promote communication among members in order to reach a common understanding of the TDD development during this year.

At last, Professor You indicated that the Forum would hold similar activities in the future in order to gather strength from all members, promote technologies, set up an communication platform for the Forum members and the leaders of the government, and provide references for the members to make proper decisions, which would promote the industrialization, commercialization and internationalization of the broadband wireless technology with a much faster speed.
