Overcoming 4G Bottlenecks and Looking into 5G Prospect Seminar on Future Mobile Communication Technology Development
Seminar | 2012/5/29May 16th of 2012, Seminar on Future Mobile Communication Technology Development, co-hosted by FuTURE FORUM and Datang Wireless Mobile Innovation Center, was held in Beijing Xiyuan Hotel. Mr. WEN Ku, Director of Department of Science and Technology of MIIT, Mr. JI Zhiyuan, Director of High Technology Research and Development Center of MOST, Dr. WANG Yingmin, Chief Scientist of Datang Telecom Group and General Manager of Datang Wireless Mobile Innovation Center attended the seminar and gave addresses.
Mr. WEN Ku pointed out that the future development of mobile communication is faced with two important issues. One is how to guarantee high-capacity data transmission among multiple users within a small area, and the other is how to reduce the network cost when the charge increase caused by high data flow influence the users utility of high-rate networks. The problems need to be solved by new technologies.
Mr. JI Zhiyuan indicated that the explosive growth of mobile users, the shortage of spectrum resources, the huge energy consumption and the network optimization all require new solutions, which will be not only a huge challenge, but also larger innovation space for the researchers.
Various countries has started their study on the next generation wireless mobile communication technologies (5G) when continuing promoting the industrialization of 4G technologies, striving for a new leap for the performance and industrial scale of wireless mobile communication. The international standardization organizations such as ITU-R, 3GPP, and CCSA all conduct research on the orientation of mobile communication evolution. Research on LTE-Hi (LTE hotspot indoor technology) is being carried out widely. Future mobile communication technologies will develop with higher spectrum utilization, faster transmission rate, and cheaper charges. On this seminar, the participants had a discussion on the current technical problems in 4G network development, strategies and technical trend for the future mobile communication development, stressing on the future evolution orientation of LTE-Advanced system, relay technologies, large-scale MIMO technology, D2D technology and dynamic simulation cloud computing plan. The presentations include “On Evolution of Post IMT-Advanced System”, “Beyond 4G Network Evolution”, “R12 Oriented and future WCDMA and LTE-enhanced Technology”, “IMT-A System Oriented Unformed Cell Technology”, and “Large-Scale MIMO as Path to 4G”, and so on.
The latest research and commercialization results from university and enterprises were also demonstrated on this seminar and attracted high interest of the participants. Datang Wireless Mobile Innovation Center introduced dynamic simulation and cloud computing based LTE network plan solution, and demonstrated “Simulated LTE Cloud Platform”. Peking University exhibited their latest research results on LTE-A enhanced and interference elimination technology.
