On July 26th of 2007, Seminar on Sino-Japan B3G Technology and Application in Dunhuang, jointly organized by FuTURE FORUM and YRP R&D Promotion Committee, was held in Dunhuang, which was presided by Prof. You Xiaohu and attended by over 50 experts from both Japan and China, including Mr. Zhang Xinsheng, Director of Department of Science and Technology, MII, Ms. Chen Baoying, Division Director from MII, Mr. Fu Yaowei, Deputy Director of the High-Tech Research & Development Center, MOST, Mr. MIHARA Shoji, First Secretary of Embassy of Japan, senior officials from MIC of Japan, Prof. You Xiaohu, Secretary-General of FuTURE FORUM, Mr. Akio MOTAI, President of YRP R&D Promotion Committee, about 20 representatives from FuTURE FORUM members and delegates from over 10 members of YRP R&D Promotion Committee.

Director Zhang Xinsheng made a welcome speech and introduced the achievements and progresses obtained in the R&D of advanced technology as well as in the mobile communication market of China within the recent two years. After positively affirming the progresses on R&D of 4G technology made by Japan, he reviewed the effort made by both Japanese and Chinese governments to promote the R&D of advanced mobile communication technology and standards, including the agreement signed by both governments on B3G strategic cooperation, and the communicative activities and some seminars organized by FuTURE FORUM and YRP Committee. Director Zhang hoped that Japan and China will continue to strengthen the communication and exchanges during the important period in the B3G development not only to promote the technical development in Japan and China, but also to make more contributions to the development of future mobile communication technology in Southeast Asia as well as all around the world.

Mr. MIHARA Shoji, First Secretary of Embassy of Japan, addressed on behalf of MIC of Japan, expressing that Japanese government has been attaching great importance to the communication and cooperation between Japanese and Chinese governments, research institutes and enterprises and hoping that the cooperation between Japan and China on the R&D of advanced mobile communication technology will be strengthened through such communication activities. Mr. Akio MOTAI, President of YRP R&D Promotion Committee made a congratulatory address in which he hoped that this seminar will serve as a milestone to promote B3G development in both Japan and China.

Representatives from both Japan and China attended the seminar on which they made 17 presentations, organized relative discussion and respectively introduced their achievements and progresses made in the development of B3G technology. The representatives are from Tsinghua University, Southeast University, UESTC, Kyoto University, Tohoku University, Osaka University, Datang Telecom, Huawei Technologies, China Mobile, NTT DoCoMo, Fujitsu China, Shanghai Research Center for Wireless Communications, and FuTURE FORUM working groups.

The seminar focused on the introduction and discussion of such subjects as Broadband Wireless Propagation Technology related to MIMO technology, requirements on future wireless frequencies and relevant propagation features, research on frequency utilization of Ad hoc and cooperative relaying, application of radio over fiber in wireless broadband mobile communications, application of Cognitive Radio technology and Wireless Mesh Network, Radio Resource Allocation and Cross Layer Design and Application, and convergence of fixed, mobile and broadcasting networks.

Scholars and experts from both Japan and China actively participated in the seminar and open discussions during the three days and reached certain consensus based on some profound academic communications. FuTURE FORUM, having been devoted to promote the international communication and cooperation in the development of future mobile communication technology, has been serving as a platform for both Chinese and foreign universities, enterprise and research institutes to make mutual communications. The success of the seminar, having extended the regular communication and cooperation between Japan and China in the development of future mobile communication technology, will effectively promote the convergence and joint development of B3G technology in Japan, China and even all over the world.
