Workshop on Next Generation Communication & Networks (NGN) organized during the 2nd Sino-Swedish Science Week

The 2nd Sino-Swedish Science Week was open in Beijing on September 17th, during which experts from both China and Sweden held effective discussions in six major fields namely Research Policy and Innovation Policy, Materials Science, Next Generation Communication & Networks, Energy and Climate Change, Public Health and Health Care System, and Western Medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine. The Swedish delegation involves more than 170 experts who came to China to join the Sino-Swedish Science Week.

MOST of China, VINNOVA and SSF of Sweden have jointly set up a research programme. As the Next Generation Communication and Networks technology will play a significant role in the future society, China and Sweden, with full communication and exchange, have involved IMT-Advanced and 4G technology in the joint research programme which is supposed to be implemented from 2008 to 2010, during which 6 to 8 subjects will be supported by Chinese and Swedish government. In order to enhance the mutual understanding between China and Sweden and to better promote Sino-Swedish collaboration, the workshop on Next Generation Communication & Networks is organized during the 2nd Sino-Swedish Science Week

Over 60 experts from both China and Sweden attended the Workshop on Next Generation Communication & Networks, on which Prof. You Xiaohu, Secretary-General of FuTURE FORUM made a welcome speech on behalf of the Chinese organizer. The workshop lasted for two days. On September 18th, 11 experts from Chinese universities such as Tsinghua University, Southeast University, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications as well as 10 experts from Swedish universities respectively gave excellent presentations on special subjects such as project research, standardization progress, wireless propagation techniques, network and application service, and introduced their achievements in the research on the Next Generation Communication and Networks. Prof. You introduced the progresses made by FuTURE Project and consequently reviewed the former cooperation between China and Sweden. On September 19th, the experts had a more detailed discussion on the subjects and problems that they concerned and exchanged on the further cooperation between China and Sweden.

During the 2nd Sino-Swedish Science Week, China and Sweden reached primary intention on cooperation through full communication. On the Closing Ceremony held on the afternoon of September 19th, Prof. You, on behalf of China, signed the cooperative memorandum with the Swedish representative, according to which China and Sweden will set up a strategic partnership in the development of future mobile communication to organize sufficient information communication, to promote the visits between the experts, and to develop the research programme jointly.
