On the afternoon of March 24th, a seminar on the strategic development of FuTURE MOBILE COMMUNICATION FORUM was held in Xiyuan Hotel in Beijing, The seminar was presided by the vice chairman and secretary-general of FuTURE FORUM, Prof. You Xiaohu and attended by over 50 directors and representatives from Forum’s member corporations. Firstly, Prof. You Xiaohu gave a special report on the suggestions made for the important special project “Next generation broadband wireless mobile communication technology” in the national medium-and-long term program of scientific and technological development. Then the chairmen of the 6 working groups respectively made their reports on the work objectives, the content of the research and the annual work plans.

Attendant representatives had a heated discussion and opinion-exchange on several issues including the operating system of the Forum and its working groups, the work plans for the year 2006, and the formulation of the technical framework as the references to the national medium-and-long term program of scientific and technological development. They have proposed valuable ideas and suggestions, and reached agreements in some aspects as well.

It is generally agreed that the key work of the working groups is the research on the IMT Advanced technology. Research on other technology may be conducted as well when the promotion of the key work goes smoothly, such as the low cost broadband wireless access technology in China. Currently the working groups are focusing on the suggestions on the establishment of the technical framework before the launch of the national important special project and the research before the B3G standardization.

In addition, the attendants also had a heated discussion on the issues related to the disclosure of confidential information and the intellectual property which resulted in certain agreements and achievements. It is suggested that an IPR Special Working Group be set up to solve the problem in a more effective way.

Henceforth, FuTURE FORUM will actively promote the communication and cooperation among the Forum and EU, South Korea, Japan and other nations and regions, output the research results to meet the demands on ITU WRC-07 spectrum and subsequent technologies, and make remarkable contribution to the launch and implementation of the national key projects in the national long-term development of science and technology.
