The 3rd Working Group Meeting of FuTURE FORUM 2008

The 3rd working group meeting of FuTURE FORUM 2008 was held from Sep. 23 to 25 at the Shunyi Training Center of NDRC.

IPR meeting was held on the afternoon of Sep. 23, on which Ms. Pan Feng, Vice Secretary-General of CCSA and Mr. Stéphane Tronchon from Qualcomm were invited to give presentations respectively introducing the IPR policies of CCSA and of some international standardization organizations. The member representatives had heated discussions on the IPR related issues and talked about the subjects for the next meeting, expecting more IPR thoughts and international references will be communicated in IPR working group.

The sub-meetings were arranged on Sep.23 and 24. Based on the results of the previous two meetings, the experts, in addition to discussing new technical articles, further explored working thoughts and methods, summarizing and concluding for the previous work and started drafting the new technical white paper.

On WG1 meeting, China Mobile introduced the joint amending sugguestions of China Mobile and China Telecom on the minimum requirements of IMT-Advanced proposed on ITU-R WP5D#2. On WG2 meeting, in addition to the review of the articles concerning emergenct communication systems and technologies, Dr. Lu Dongdong from Nokia and Dr. Bai Yong from DoCoMo were invited to respectively introduce Applications of NFC Technologies and New Business Models by Using Integrated Wireless Networks, which further promoted the deeper discussion on short-range communication technologies. On WG3 meeting, concerns on the future spectrum allocation of TDD and TD-LTE have become the focus besides the measurement of antenna channels and the relation between PPDR and IMT-A spectrum utilization. WG4, based on the exploration of the key air interface technologies at physical layers, developed more systematical research by gradually transforming the bottom-up research into top-down one. Dr. Xia Minghua from ETRI proposed on the downlink of MISO system and Prof. Wang Dongming from SEU introduced Physical-Layer Network Coding for Multiple Access Relay Channel, which inspired heated discussions. The contributions from USTC, BUPT and Samsung offered novel research thoughts and will be further and fully discussed in the future. The members of WG4 were encouraged to submit more articles and suggestions. WG5 has worked out the basic structure of the white paper with the contributions mainly concerning about Relay, VOIP, HARQ and uplink spectrum utilization. On this sub-meeting, further improvement and enrichment were made to the contributions. Micro-cellular technologies has been taken as the major research orientation of WG6, actively participated and supported by the members. BWA working group adopted a different working style researching on the feasibility of applying BWA technologies in the informationalization of the education industry trying to provide an improved solution to consequently form certain standards.

On the summary meeting, Mr. Zhou Xingguo, Director of Spectrum Engineering Division of State Radio Monitoring Center and Dr. Li Xiaoqiang from Samsung respectively introduced the contents of AWF-5 Meeting (Macau) and 3GPP SA#41 meeting (Japan) before the chairs made summaries for the sub-meetings putting forward some suggestions on the future work and reporting the progresses of drafting the white paper and the work that had been done during 2008.
