IMT-A Standard Promotion Seminar was held at Beijing Xiyuan Hotel on January 5th of 2009, in order to further promote China’s IMT-A standardization, to make full use of the fruits gained by the National 863 and 973 Program, to promote the transition from research to actual production, and to coordinate with the implementation of the significant project of the next generation broadband wireless communication network and mobilize the initiatives of the domestic enterprises and research institutes.

The seminar was jointed hosted by Department of High and New Technology Development and Industrialization of MOST and Department of Science and Technology of MIIT, organized by FuTURE FORUM, inviting the units and experts in charge of the National 863 and 973 projects. Representative from CATR, Tsinghua University, SEU, BUPT, UESTC, Peking University, SWJTU, Huawei, Potevio, HUST and Xidian University made remarkable reports on the seminar.

Leaders from MIIT encouraged all the units to further mobilize and explore the potential of the current patents and actively input the fruits to the international standardization organization, so as to offer technical support to the frontline international standardization, and to win the initiative position in the new round of competition by providing powerful technical guarantee for the implementation of the significant projects. The principals also affirmed the efforts made by FuTURE FORUM to promote the IMT-A standardization.

In order to better promote the standardization and make all the units understand the process and schedule, IMT-Advanced promote team introduced the ITU requirements on the candidate technologies, the latest progresses of 3GPP LTE-Advanced and the word done by the promotion team. Some relative units also reported their progresses in the R&D of IMT-Advanced technologies.

At the end, Prof. You Xiaohu, Vice Chairman of the promotion team, Secretary-General of FuTURE FORUM, suggested that the academic research should be connected with the standard requirements, attaching importance to the simplicity of the technologies to win the support of the industrial community. Prof. You hoped that the research institutes could give full play to their roles in production, study and research, closely cooperated to contribute to the IMT-Advanced standardization. Leaders from Department of Science and Technology of MIIT affirmed the seminar, advising that the innovative original technologies should be collected for further systematical research and that specialized R&D, profound discussion and close cooperation should be conducted on the relative key technologies.
