On October 30 of 2009, Cross-Strait Young Scientist Academic Seminar on Electronic Information 2009, hosted by CAST, organized by Xiamen University and Southeast University, coordinated by FuTURE FORUM, was held in Xiamen University, on which full discussion on the exploration and prospect on the next generation mobile communication system was conducted. The leaders from CAST, CIE, Southeast University, Xiamen University attended the opening ceremony. Over 40 experts from more than 20 reputed universities and mobile communication enterprises coming from both sides of the Strait including Tsinghua University, Southeast University, Beijing Jiaotong University, HUST, Shenzhen University, China Telecom, Datang Mobile, Vodafone, National Tsinghua University, National Ilan University, National Chino Tung University, together with the teachers and students of Xiamen University, had in-depth discussions on the hotspot issues concerning the next generation mobile communication.

Prof. You Xiaohu, president of School of Information Science and Engineering of SEU, made an address on the opening ceremony, in which he mentioned that the substantial cooperation cross the Strait had not been effectively developed though the communication and exchange activities have been conducting for years. So while the 4G standards have been submitted, it is urgent for both sides cross the Strait to develop substantial cooperation projects and R&D events. The mainland China has kicked off the significant special project for the medium-and-long-term development of mobile communication, and Taiwan has also taken the network communication development as one the important projects to promote.

During the two-day exchange activity, more than 20 experts from both sides of the Strait had an extensive and profound communication and discussion on the progresses of the next generation mobile communication projects in mainland China and Taiwan and the advancement of the mobile communication systems, including the hotspot technologies, service applications, commercial operation, information security, wireless sensors, and the convergence of ecological activation and mobile communication. The workshop gave an overall view of the research achievements of the young scientists in the field of mobile communication from across the Strait and laid a sound foundation for the later cooperation between the both sides.
