Workshop on Satellite Mobile Communication Technologies and Industrial Development
Seminar | 2009/12/7Hosted by FuTURE FORUM and CASC, the Workshop on Satellite Mobile Communication Technologies and Industrial Development was held from December 3rd to 5th in Sanya. 70 experts on Satellite Mobile Communication from more than 30 units attended the workshop, including Mr. Qiang Xiaozhe, Director of Division of Information and Space, Department of High and New Technology Development and Industrialization of MOST, Mr. Wu Hao, NDRC Department of High and New Technology Industrialization, Mr. Jing Guifei, Director of National Remote Sensing Center of China, Mr. Wang Xinglin, Director of National Disaster Reduction Center, Academician Zhang Lvqian, experienced expert on satellite mobile communication, Mr. Yang Qianli, Prof. You Xiaohu, Secretary-General of FuTURE FORUM, Mr. Liu Qiang, Director of R&D Center of CASC. The experts form CASC, China Satcom, CATR, Communication Department of GSD, General Armament Department, Space Star, Datang Telecom, Tsinghua University, and UESTC analyzed and discussed the requirements and development of Satellite Mobile Communication from the aspects of services, technologies and industry, proposing ways and means to actively promote the construction and development of China’s Satellite Mobile Communication industry.
Mr. Qiang Xiaozhe, Mr. Wu Hao, and Mr. Yang Qianli gave important speeches on the meeting, in which they pointed out that the development of satellite mobile communication, lagged behind in China, will be facing with more and more civil requirements and covered by the 12th Five-Year-Plan as a strategic research orientation due to the current national conditions and the problems exposed in the recent serious disasters. Because many aspects and departments are involved in the development of satellite mobile communication, the integration between the army and the people, and the coordination among different divisions should be valued during the promotion.
During the two-day meeting, the experts from the universities, operators, satellite related companies, and research institutes, gave reports on the requirements on satellite mobile communication, vision and operation mode of future satellite mobile communication, and certain important satellite mobile communication technologies. Heated discussion was conducted on some hotspots such as the importance of China’s high-orbit satellite development, the civil application of satellite mobile communication, and the integration of military and civil applications of satellite mobile communication systems. It is generally agreed that an independent regional satellite mobile broadband system is badly desired currently, which can be applied in public interest careers such as fishing, disaster prevention and reduction, rural communication, and that the supplemental commercial application of the ground system is regarded as quite promising as well. It is suggested that great investment should be made to the excavation of potential of satellite mobile communication and the R&D of fundamental satellite mobile communication technologies, based on which the standardization and IPR work should be enhanced consequently.
