May 31st of 2010, the FuTURE delegation, headed by Prof. You Xiaohu, Secretary-General of FuTURE FORUM, returned from their visit to four top Japanese Universities, including Kyoto University, Tohoku University, Kogakuin University, and University of Electro-Communications. The experts put forward some suggestions on the Sino-Japan cooperation events in the field of the next generation broadband communication and green communication, as well as inspected the development of novel future mobile communication technologies in Japan. The delegation also consists of the experts from relative cooperation units, including Prof. Wang Jing from Tsinghua University, Prof. Zhu Guangxi from HUST, Prof. Wu Gang from UESTC, and Ms. Fu Jun, Vice Secretary-General of FuTURE FORUM.

During the visit, Prof. You Xiaohu, Secretary-General of FuTURE FORUM, introduced the recent research progress of mobile communication in China, and experts from different universities respectively introduced their focuses and orientation of the development of mobile communication technologies. Prof. Wang Jing, proposed detailed suggestions on the Sino-Japan cooperation that China and Japan set up the joint cooperation project according to the research focuses and the mobile communication development or that Chinese universities and Japanese universities can jointly apply for the significant national projects funded by official project or research funds of State Key Laboratories and universities.

Japanese side, quite interested in the suggestions proposed by Chinese side, expressed great willingness to work together with China to actively promote the cooperation and agreed to discuss on the details on the Sino-Japan Workshop on Future Mobile Communication that will be held on August 3rd in China. FuTURE FORUM, expecting the further progresses, will organize and promote the Sino-Japan cooperation.

Since the foundation, FuTURE FORUM has been actively promoting the international communication and cooperation, and successfully organized the Sino-Sweden and Sino-Finland governmental cooperation projects. FuTURE FORUM organized several visits and communication activities with Japan, and co-hosted with ICT Forum, YRP, and IEICE, the fourth Sino-Japan Workshop on Future Mobile Communication, which was attended by nearly a hundred experts from over fifty reputed universities, research institutes, and communication enterprises from both China and Japan.

Based on the mutual understanding and communication between Chinese and Japanese enterprises and research institutes, it is the proper timing to initiate in-depth cooperation on the next generation broadband communication technologies and the relative R&D projects will be supported by the cooperation platform offered by FuTURE FORUM referring to the successful experience gained from the Sino-Swedish Strategic Cooperative Programme. China and Japan will work in cooperation with a due division of labor and complementary advantages, seeking great support from the both governments and industry, fully utilizing the research capacity from all sectors of government, production, academy, and research. The next generation broadband wireless mobile communication has been defined as one of the 16 significant medium-and-long-term scientific and technological projects in China. International cooperation is regarded as the necessary element in the project implementation. Strategic cooperation with those countries leading the development of mobile communication, such as Japan, and focus on the advanced wireless communication R&D, will further improve the innovative capacity in the field of mobile communication in China, change the situation that the wireless mobile communication development is dominated by developed European and American countries, enhance the regional advantages of Asian and Pacific Area, and make China one of the important and dominant role in the future development of wireless mobile communication technologies and industry.
